Video Reviews

O.N.E - Yeasayer

I find most interesting things in most interesting places.

Don't Wanna See Your Face - John Butler Trio

I love, love, love this video. Unconditionally makes me smile.

Whip My Hair - Willow Smith

This girl could be the next Rhianna.. ?

Future Africa - The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra (The POAO)

I watched these guys and girls perform today, and I was completely blown away. The amount of energy of passion that goes into their music and just emanates from their instruments and voices, is just infectious. They were the last people on stage at the end of the day, and they still managed to get people up and dancing.
There are 19 official members of the band, but only 17 were present today. They were one entity. So completely synchronised. There was not a time where it seemed too much. I'm so pleased I could experience their wonder.
Definitely a major highlight of my weekend.

Never Tear Us Apart - Ben Harper From "Splendour in the Grass 2010"

A truely beautiful moment with a beautiful artist.

At Or With Me - Jack Johnson from "To The Sea"

I never thought I'd see something like this video from Jack, but then again, he constantly surprises me.
I couldn't help but laugh.
Awesome. Just plain awesome.

Close To You - John Butler Trio from "April Uprising"

Begins with the ticking clock  The opening riff catches your attention, and Johns frustration goes over the edge as the words begin: "Ive got to get away man, Got to clear my mind, mind, mind. Out of this mundane, god-forsaken 9-5, waste of my time".

I love the way they have mounted the camera for this video, it seems the world is turning around them. And the colour shift that all comes together with appropriate timing.. Yes, Yes!

This video just reeks of rebellious attitude, along with the lyrics. I must admit that I've always visualised someone (namely myself) going ape in a supermarket, and that's just what they do. And they enjoy doing it! Its all about "Don't worry man".

This only only JBT video, that doesn't really concentrate on the actual playing of the instruments, much more of just generally having a good time. Nicky air drums during it and I thoroughly the expressions and mannerisms of Byron. He's definitely into it. And John gets some skating in, something that's only really happened in April Uprising..

I don't know if you noticed, but they slide little things in, like John covered completely in fairy lights.. It makes me smile, that people still have fun with their clips.

Half Full Glass Of Wine - Tame Impala from "Tame Impala EP (also known as Antares Mira Sun)

Tame Impala, a 4 piece from Perth who consider themselves, groove, hypno, psychedelic rock. And I couldn't agree more. You probably remember "Remember Me" from last year. It got a shit load of air play on Triple J.

This track along with the video definitely draws from their "influences", making this a very authentic 60's experience. I love to colour progression and the both physical and mental journey this video takes. The simple distorted electric as a filler between verses just continues the journey.

The crumpling and re-crumpling of the planets, the pounding heart to the resonating bass, the Sigmund Freud-esk ink blots and colouring, along with the assorted animal/beast imagery makes this clip definitely an acid child.

The build the "real heart" creates, which just explodes and re-forms into Kevin Parker with his dislocated mouth and juxtaposed hair, makes you concentrate on the lyrics despite all the wonderful surroundings.
The mouth sperm, during an instrumental section is also an interesting concept. Inseminating your minds!

The auditory and visual noise that leads to the fade out "dot". Its just not fair.. that whole build, just for it to collapse on its self. The gravity of the situation must be high. I guess all good things must end..

Drumming Song - Florence + The Machine from "Lungs"

This song never fails to move me.

Begins with Florence. Just Florence, and she seems to have a private thought that she is apprehensive to share. She takes on this humble and modest expression. One that portrays that she is incapable of doing anything of a sinister nature, but she has these feelings, such powerful feelings that need to get out.

As the intensity of the lyrics and music rises, you see her actions become larger, as well as the voice become more passionate, with a drive and sexuality that's infectious. The choral voices and the constant drumming just make you want to move.

Its almost like shes split into two, her outside composed self and the caged tiger within. The tiger is slowly released, and the song and movements become more intense along with the build of the song.

I do giggle to myself when I see Florence shuffle down the hallway in those monstrous gold heels.

The clip itself is very honest. You see a lot of Florence. And her burning passion within.

Here It Goes Again - Ok Go From "Oh No"

Any guys who can dance on treadmills, and make it look good, get my kudos.
I have a feeling a lot of people have been injured as a consequence of this clip..
